No one does a better job analyzing and shaping your product than your customers. They aren’t only the harbinger of your unique product ideas but also help mold your existing products into better versions with time. That’s why you must run a product satisfaction survey to seek their opinions.
However, creating a survey to judge your product from the glasses of your audience isn’t as easy as it sounds. Let’s help you understand how to build on a product survey that yields results.
You may have multiple products in the market. You may have a few in the launch pipeline, too. But when you survey your users, be topical and focus on only one product. Say, you might want to bank on the opportunity to brag about a new super-innovative upcoming launch when you’re seeking opinions on your existing offering. Just hold on there. Because it’s wrong.
For instance:
Q: How many times did you use our <product name> sunscreen last month? (On that note, check out our latest vegan-based lipsticks.)
Or
Q: How many times did you use our <product name> sunscreen last month?
The first question sounds desperate and salesy, while the second one is specific. Your users understand what you want them to answer. Stick to one product, and don’t confuse your audience. Also, if they feel bitter about one product, their response to another product might be influenced.
Similarly, don’t waiver from the crux of the question. Look at this:
Q: You might have used our herbal sunscreen <product name> launched during the third quarter. How did you like the fragrance?
OR
Q: How did you like the fragrance of <product name>, our herbal sunscreen?
No extra points to guess that the 2nd question is a better choice. It’s crisp. When your question is short, your users’ time is saved. Also, the preamble before the question is boring.
There’s no reason you can’t bring variety and fun to your form, even if you’re only surveying one product. Add open-ended questions toward the end of your survey for qualitative market research. But make them optional.
Use the emoticons shown below to make the survey attractive.
You can add 30-second-long videos to reveal something interesting about your product. When surveying a product’s price and customer experience, you can show them a video testimonial, too.
A survey question shouldn’t necessarily have 4 multiple choices. You may use yes and no as answers. Add other fields in the answers wherever possible to let your audience add something valuable. Use skip logic. Show them a progress bar; don’t test their patience. Introduce some congratulatory gifs at the end when they submit.
In a nutshell, make your form eye-catching.
We’re living in a society that is opening its arms to diversity and inclusivity. So should you and us.
Including diverse groups in your survey emailing list is great. But are your surveys diverse? Can they pass the test of inclusivity? Learn how to give depth to your product by including diverse voices.
With the world waking up to BLM and widening its horizons to include marginalized communities, you can do so much better by including the suppressed voices in your surveys. In fact, you wouldn’t be covering all the segments and demographics if you didn’t include the LGBTQIA+ community.
Your products and services should allow people challenged with sight and sound to use them. Otherwise, you’re both unjust to the repressed communities and losing out on a market share. Being inclusive is serving your social responsibilities, too.
Diversity develops trust in your audience. Here are 5 easy steps to make surveys more inclusive.
You can’t ask your users in the dead of night about your product’s performance. So, know when your audience is awake and travelling or eating. Although sending reminder emails for a survey is good to keep floating in your users’ minds, don’t make it a daily habit. Remind them once or twice during the survey cycle.
Similarly, know your customer’s journey. Don’t ask a first-time customer about your product in the first or second week unless they might have used it daily. Imagine asking about the performance of a new facial kit twice within 10 days. Your users aren’t going to use it this frequently.
Or asking a new user the reason why your user hasn’t bought the product the 10th time after buying it 9 times. That’s why user segmentation is important here.
We aren’t talking about the UX with the product design here. It’s the form and the questions we are focusing on.
While all the points from #1 to #4, if followed, render a good user experience, you should explicitly focus on the quality and type of questions. Time and geography to send the survey invitation and a reminder email. Also, learn to write crisp email invitations to your users.
Make it about users and not your product. Focus on how your users can benefit by filling out the surveys. Users love to be pampered. Personalize your emails and forms as much as you can.
